Fall Festival and Diabetes Walk

This week was one of the busiest weeks that I have had in a LONG time! Everyday after school I had something going on, dinner with old credential group, Piggies and Paws, math cluster meeting, and the FALL FESTIVAL at my school. I stayed at school on Friday from 7:50 in the morning until 9:00 at night! It was actually a blast and all the students that came had an undeniably great time! Our fifth grade team organized three booths, a Bake Sale, Guitar Hero, and a Picture Booth. Students and parents helped donate items to sell and all money that our booths earned, goes straight to our grade levels...how awesome is that? Sammy and Joe came and were such troupers, Joe helped set up and clean, and Sammy just tried to keep busy! She didn't have too much a problem doing so!

This was the background for the picture booth...Joe was supposed to help us make sure it looked good in pictures...the background did atleast!

Fourth grade sold glow sticks, which Sammy was very amused with!

So Saturday, the busy week didn't let up! We participated in the Step Out to Fight Diabetes. It was a Diabetes walk in Downtown Riverside. Our school participated in the "Rivera Walks for Kyla" group. Kyla is my friend Kathy's daughter who has Type 1 Diabetes. She was actually in the newspaper last week if you want to check it out (Click Here). Kathy teaches 4th grade at my school and her daughter Kyla was in my class last year. She is such a strong girl, I am so happy and proud to have been her teacher, and friend!

It was a big group! We all wore our "Rivera Walks for Kyla" shirts, even our littlest walked had one on! In the pictures below, Briana is on the right (Kyla's older sister, also a student of mine) and her little brother Byron (soon to be student of mine!)

Since Sammy's shirt was a little big, I had to make it trendy by tying bows on the sleeves and then tying it up in the back. She rocked the shirt though!

Jonathan, Krysten, and Charlotte also came to participate in the walk. The girls LOVED playing with each other!

There were HUNDREDS of walkers! The walk was three miles from White Park, around Fairmont Park, and back! Quiet a workout for someone like me who doesn't work out really, AT ALL!

Joe and Sammy had to do a "Paino Power" before starting off on the walk!

And WE'RE OFF!

My little walker had quiet the workout! Good thing someone took care of our water bottles!

We took a quick break and looked at the ducks on the bridge!
Joe trying to show off by running...he didn't do that too often, or for too long!
This group had the cutest shirts, and purses! The stroller was packed with Louis Vuttons!
The boys made the pregos push the strollers up the hill, nice!
Joe brought our iPod, of course, which was great! We even had a singing quartet of girls following up for a while (I'm so mean, I kept trying to change the song so that they wouldn't know it and wouldn't sing around us!) Joe then decided to be a bee-bopper and walk around with the music to "Good Vibrations"...
He and Byron even took a second to stop and dance for the crowd, so Joe!
After the walk, there was band playing at White Park, and Sammy and I stopped to dance!
